Inaugural Parade

The inaugural parade along Pennsylvania and Constitution avenues, which usually features about 12,000 marchers, has in the past required tickets for bleacher seats, though standing room is free. Parade details are also still being worked out.

Inauguration Details


US Capitol

·         Closed to the public from 5PM on Saturday to January 17, 2009 until 3:00PM on Tuesday, January 20, 2009.

·         Public tours will resume on Wednesday, January 21.

·         Leadership staff will need a special Inaugural credential for entrance.

·         No events or meetings, public or private, will be allowed in the US Capitol on Inauguration Day, even in personal offices.

·         Members will gather in the House chamber before walking onto the platform.

 

Transportation & Parking

·         All Metro stations around the Capitol will be open. Archives/Navy Memorial and Smithsonian WILL BE CLOSED

 

General Ticketing Policies

·         There will be about 250,000 tickets handed out. There will be jumbo screens in the ticketed area.

·         Children who walk will need tickets. People who assist those with disabilities will need tickets as well.

·         Offices will receive their allotment of tickets toward the end of the week of Jan. 12

·         There will be no ticketed area west of 4th street. The plan for past 4th street is yet to be decided.

·         Gates to ticketed area open at 9AM and probably before.

·         No food, water, bags will be in the standing area.

 

Other People Who Get Tickets

·         Former members will receive tickets for themselves and their spouse from the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC)

·         The President-elect will get tickets as well to distribute

·         Senators receive an allotment of tickets
